Four-year-old accidentally shoots father
Ongwediva A four-year-old boy shot and killed his father yesterday in a freak accident at Ashuupa village near Oniipa in Oshana Region. According to the Oshana Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Rauha Amwele, it is suspected the boy accidentally pulled the trigger of the gun and shot his father in the chest. The deceased, identified as Risto Nambambi, 44, liked driving around with his boy and yesterday he stopped at Uuzizi cuca-shops to buy something. He reportedly got out of the vehicle with his gun and as they were leaving the cuca-shops, Nambambi first placed the gun somewhere on or near the front seat and told the child to get into the car. “He was still standing outside when he apparently told the child to move the gun, from wherever he initially placed it, so that he (the boy) could sit comfortably,” said Amwele. It is believed there was a bullet in the chamber of Nambambi’s gun when the boy accidentally pulled the trigger and shot him in the chest. He died instantly. According to Amwele, Nambambi’s next of kin were already informed. Police will forward a docket on the matter to the prosecutor general’s office for a decision, Amwele told New Era.
