Gatiepie in Afrikaans Next Week on Stage
"By Johanna Nangula To round off the year, the National Theatre of Namibia in collaboration with 'Kopdoekie- Afrikaans en Teater' is proud to present ""Gatiepie sien vrou spoke"", an Afrikaans comedy written by Kevin Ehrenreich and to be performed by Kevin and Leonard Petersen next Thursday to Saturday at the National Theatre of Namibia. Speaking dialectic Afrikaans, widely used on the Cape Flats in South Africa, the story is based on Gatiepie who has been living on the Cape Flats for six years with his common-law wife Fatiema. When Fatiema goes away for a weekend, husband Gatiepie decides to go to the beach for a swim with his spare wheel (girlfriend), some other two girls and Gatiepie's side-kick, Skinny. As arranged, Shakespeare the green-grocer will take the girls to the dam by car while Gatiepie and Skinny would go on foot through Gangster Paradise and through the local graveyard where they encounter scary female ghosts such as mythical, Antjie Somers. What happens in this funny adventure? Kevin Ehrenreich is well known in the theatre industry in South Africa for his highly rated comedy productions such as 'Gatiepie word president', 'Erections 2004- Vote for Gatiepie', Gatiepie sien sy Gat' and many others which are always sold-out shows in South Africa."
