2015-03-16Staff Report 2 WINDHOEK – Former president of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Horst Koehler is set to arrive in the capital on Friday, Ambassador Onno H?ckmann announced during a media briefing held in the city last Wednesday. Koehler, who was that country’s president between 2004-2010 is to officiate at the Germany Week, which is underway in the capital under the theme “25 Years of German-Namibia Relationship”. Koehler will also take part in the country’s 25th independence celebration and the inauguration of the new President of the Republic of Namibia Dr Hage Geingob, who takes over the reigns from the outgoing President Hifikepunye Pohamba on March 21. The German Week officially opens at the Goethe-Centre in Windhoek on Friday. Musicians, actors, artists, athletes, students and scientists will present a broad spectrum of activities in the capital and other towns in the country such as Swakopmund. “2015 is an important milestone for the German-Namibia relationship, as it is the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the German-Namibia diplomatic relations,” said H?ckmann appealing to Namibians to join celebrating 25 years of Namibia independence. “Let's get together to celebrate 25 years of Namibia independence, German reunification as well as 25 years of close bilateral co-operation,” he added.
