Goals galore in indoor hockey league
Windhoek More than 40 men and women’s teams from 12 clubs, of which three were from the coast, participated in the three different national leagues in the recently concluded Bank Windhoek National Indoor Hockey League. The league started on January 29 and ended last weekend, with matches played every weekend from Friday evening to Saturday evening at various venues in Windhoek, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. In the Premier, First and Second leagues 200 games were played in which more than 600 goals were scored. The eventual winners in the Premier League were Mad Maroons Men and Women teams of Windhoek Old Boys. The runners-up in the Men’s Premier League were the UNAM 1 team, while in the Women’s Premier League the Saints 1 team came second. The winners in the Women’s First League were the Saints 2 team and Wanderers 2 won in the Men’s First League. The Women’s Division in the Second League was won by Saints 3 and the Men’s winners were Saints 3. All the leagues were competitive and were enjoyed by all participating teams. “The Namibia Hockey Union (NHU) is pleased with how the leagues were played and wish to thank their sponsor, Bank Windhoek for their support to make these leagues possible,” said Marc Nel, the President of the NHU on Saturday. “Having Bank Windhoek on board could only strengthen the leagues in the future. We are very thankful for their partnership,” Nel concluded. Last weekend’s results in the Premier League were as follows: Women UNAM 7 – 2 Saints DTS 5 – 2 Wanderers Saints 4 – 4 WOB UNAM 5 – 0 WOB Mad Maroons WOB 3 – 2 DTS   Men UNAM 1 – 1 Saints DTS 9 – 4 Wanderers UNAM 7 – 7 WOB Mad Maroons WOB 3 – 2 DTS
