2006-09-08Staff Report 2 "By Kuvee Kangueehi Windhoek Residents at Okakarara have been stunned by the gruesome death of a 29-year-old woman who is believed to have been murdered and her body partly burned by her 30-year-old boyfriend. The Mayor of Okakarara, Tjatjitirani Kandukira, said residents have been shocked by the cold-blooded murder and are still trying to come to terms with the crime. The Mayor said the latest incident is disturbing as it is becoming common among younger people. ""If my memory serves me correctly, this is not the first time such an incident has happened, and something must be done to address this problem, especially among the youth"". According to the Namibian Police the deceased, Lydia Kuyakwa, died on Sunday morning at about seven o'clock from several stab wounds, including one in the chest. Kuyakwa's throat was also slit with a sharp object, probably a knife, before the right-hand side of her body was burned. The Police also stated that a 30-year-old suspect, believed to be her boyfriend, was arrested in connection with the murder. A police official at Okakarara told New Era yesterday that the suspect has not appeared in court yet as he is in hospital. The officer said the suspect, who also has a child with the deceased, tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself with the knife several times in the stomach and neck, but is recovering in the Katutura Hospital in Windhoek. Meanwhile, in another murder case involving lovers, a 45-year-old woman appeared before the Eenhana Magistrate's Court on Wednesday after she was arrested earlier and charged with murder. The suspect allegedly beat her 58-year-old husband, Simon Shileka, with a knobkerrie on the head after a quarrel. Shileka succumbed to the injuries he sustained on Sunday at Onaame village in the Epembe Constituency. The Namibian Police reported another murder in Muketela village, Chichimani area in the Caprivi Region, where Matiba Boster Piti was allegedly chopped in the head near the ear, and stabbed with a spear in the abdomen as well as in the lower right rib after an argument. He died from his wounds, and the suspect has not yet been arrested. It has also been reported that four people died in three separate motor vehicle accidents. The first accident happened on the Western by-pass in the early hours of Monday morning killing two persons, a Chinese and a Malaysian, who died on the spot after the driver of the vehicle in which they were travelling lost control, causing it to overturn. Two others, also a Malaysian and a Chinese, were injured and taken to the Katutura State Hospital for treatment. In the second accident, 20-year-old Ilean Cloete died on the spot on the Windhoek-Rehoboth main road after the driver of the Corsa pick-up he was travelling in lost control and left the road and hit a telephone pole. Five others were slightly injured. In the third accident Sagaria Ameb, aged 40, died after the driver of a Toyota pick up he was travelling in lost control of the vehicle which overturned.
