Guard disappears with ATM money

WALVIS BAY - Police in the Erongo region say they are still looking for a G4S security guard who disappeared on Saturday morning with N$300 000 from Swakopmund.

They are now appealing to the public to assist them in tracing the suspect, who took off with the money from Ocean View Spar at the town.

Crime investigations coordinator Erastus Iikuyu said the suspect, identified as Ricardo Oxurub, allegedly booked out an undisclosed amount of money to refill Bank Windhoek ATMs in Swakopmund and Arandis on Saturday morning.

“The guards got off at Ocean View Spar to refill the ATM, while Oxurub remained in the cash-in-transit vehicle with the remaining N$300 000.

On their return, the guards were greeted by an empty vehicle as both the money and Oxurub were gone”.

The N$300 000 was meant to refill the Arandis ATM.

“A manhunt was launched to trace Oxurub, and to recover the missing money. We are appealing to the public to assist the police in tracing the suspect,” stated Iikuyu.

Anyone with information can contact detective chief inspector Daniel Gurirab at 0812333745 or detective inspector Rosa Tjihavero on 0814137105, or the nearest police station.
