'Guesthouses' Ordered Closed
By John Ekongo WINDHOEK Namibian Tourism Board (NTB) inspectors, with the help of the Namibian Police, City Police and officials from the Windhoek Municipality, on Thursday last week went on a joint operation to root out illicit guesthouses in Windhoek North. Windhoek North, once a prime residential area, is now the target of illicit business activities from brothels to drug dealers and illicit accommodation establishments. This is the second such operation, after a similar one was conducted last year in February. As a result of last Thursday's operation, two illicit guesthouses were ordered to close down by the tourism and accommodation establishment authority. The properties in question are located at 88 Hosea Kutako Drive and 66 Sauer Street. The latter is a former Government house that, according to documentation in the possession of New Era, has been alienated to the sitting tenant. They were found to be in contravention of the Accommodation Establishment Act. Two Zimbabwean nationals found in one of the bedrooms said they are charged N$1?
