Ingwe can all but seal league title race
Windhoek Surprise MTC Premiership pacesetters Tigers will be out to extend their lead at the top of the log when Brian Isaacs’ in-form outfit travel to Rundu to confront league strugglers Julinho and United Stars in winnable matches this weekend. Victory for the resurgent Ingweinyama in the much anticipated outstanding round 10 and 11 matches will place them firmly in the driving seat and further strengthen their aspirations and credentials as serious title contenders. As it stands, Tigers comfortably occupy first spot with 23 points on the log standings, two points ahead of second placed Black Africa, but the Shadumbala Boys had played two matches less than their closest title rivals. Ingwe open their assault with a date with relegation candidates Julinho tomorrow before squaring off against league minnows United Stars on Sunday. A likely victory in both assignments will give Tigers an unassailable 8 points cushion over their nearest rivals. Having been pegged back to 4th place on the log table, reigning champions African Stars will look to redeem themselves following a lackluster performance that saw the Reds failing to manufacture victory in their last three league outings. Stars will exchange roles with fellow title rivals Tigers in the weekend’s double headers, with matches coming in thick and fast against United Stars and Julinho respectively. Civics start life without former coach Christy Guruseb, who parted ways with the Civilians last week, when they host LHU Blue Waters in a double header featuring FNB Orlando Pirates against coastal outfit Eleven Arrows. Both matches are slated for the Sam Nujoma Stadium and see the teams returning to the same venue on Sunday to exchange opponents. Perched in an unusually precarious second position on the opposite end of the log table with a paltry tally of 7 points from a possible 27, the Civilians will have to pull out all stops if they are to avoid the inevitable tag of being considered relegation fodder.
