It was a tough match - Ludwig

Namibia’s senior women’s team yesterday crashed out of the ongoing 2022 Africa Cup of Nations field hockey competition in Accra, Ghana after drawing one-all with Zimbabwe.

Namibia was in Pool A with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Uganda, and finished the group with a win against Uganda, a loss against South Africa and now a draw against Zimbabwe.

They needed a win to advance to the second round of the tournament.

Zimbabwe advanced to the next round on goal difference.

Namibia will today play against Zambia as they fight for fifth place at the tournament.

Reflecting on yesterday’s match, captain Wiandri Ludwig told New Era Sport that they knew how strong Zimbabwe was, but could not manage to collect maximum points.

“We knew that Zimbabwe was a good team to go up against. It was a tough match against a strong Zimbabwe side. We stepped up as a team and gave it our all, but we couldn’t get the results we wanted. We were disappointed because we wanted to win this game to get us through to the next stage, which is the top four,” she said.

On their next match, the skipper said they are aiming for a win.

“We are keeping our heads high for today’s match against Zambia. We learned a lot in our last match, and we are taking those lessons to build up on. So, we are prepared to take them on,” she added.
