It’s African Stars vs Tigers in tomorrow’s Super Cup clash
Windhoek After witnessing the action-packed Dr Hage Geingob Cup last weekend, it is again down to serious business in this weekend’s Standard Bank Super Cup with African Stars taking on Tigers at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tomorrow. Reigning MTC Premiership champions African Stars and Bidvest Cup winners Tigers are to renew their rivalry when the two Katutura giants lock horns to stake a claim for the N$500 000 first prize in the Super Cup. The losers will take home a consolation prize of N$250 000. Namibia’s equal to the popular Charity Shield in the home of football, England, the Super Cup pits the league champions against the Namibia Football Association (NFA) cup winners. Speaking to nfa.org.na, newly appointed Tigers mentor Brian Isaacs says his team will challenge Stars for the Cup as they aim to set a great tone for the new season. “We have a chance to make sure we start the season on the right foot and on Saturday we will mean business. The past few days have been very good for us in terms of our preparations and we will go all out tomorrow and win a cup for this great club. It has been a great year for Tigers and it can only get better,” states Isaacs in reference to Tigers’ triumph in the Bidvest Namibia Cup that guaranteed their place in the Super Cup. Isaacs, not completely satisfied with his squad for the new season, indicates that the current team is good enough to compete and win the Super Cup. “This team won the Bidvest Namibia Cup and they still have the same desire and hunger to win more and I have full confidence in them to win a second cup in 2015. But I still have to make some reinforcements for the new season,” Isaacs states. The former Brave Warriors and MTC Premiership four-time league champions Black Africa coach expressed a bit of concern with the unavailability of two key players – goalie Lloyd Kazapua and striker Panduleni Nekundi. “They are on trials in South Africa and even though we expect Lloyd towards the end of the week I don’t think we can have him ready for Saturday but we will see. We have other good players who are ready to play as well,” Isaacs explains. Tickets are available at all Computicket outlets for N$30. Last year, Stars lost 3-2 to Black Africa in the inaugural edition.
