Kambazembi officiates at OTA celebration
The dust seems to have settled on the feuding between the Ovaherero Traditional Authority (OTA) and the Kambazembi Royal House (KRH) as Chief Sam Kambazembi attended the OTA celebration here on Saturday. Both the OTA and KRH traditional authorities have been boycotting each other’s events for over a decade. Speaking at the celebration and introduction of the OTA Paramount Chief Vekuii Rukoro to the community, Kambazembi called for unity among traditional leaders so that the delivery of services within communities could show visible improvement. “I call on our traditional leaders to speak with one voice so that we can initiate community development projects together,” he said at the occasion in Okahandja. “I know there are many of you here, and among my followers out there, who are asking why I am here, and my message to you is very clear: I don’t need permission or an invitation from anybody to be here at Okahandja Commando Number One,” he said.“This is my home, this is where I belong,” he added. Chief Kambazembi is son of the late Chief David Tuvahi Kambazembi who died in 2006. He was appointed late last year as the new chief of the KRH, replacing his brother Uaakutjo Kambazembi who died earlier that year in Ongwediva Medipark Hospital. The KRH has jurisdiction over the traditional matters and communal land of the Ovaherero in Otjozondjupa Region. In 2013 government donated N$3.5 million towards the construction of the office complex for the Kambazembi Royal House in Okakarara. Meanwhile, Chief Vipuira Kapuuo of Ovitoto reminded those who gathered in Okahandja that the occasion was just a celebration and introduction of Rukoro to the community, and not a coronation. All traditional rituals and inauguration were done last year November in Aminuis, performed at Otuuaziza in Omaheke Region to mark the coronation.
