Kapinga in court for ‘witchcraft’ murder
Rundu A 56-year-old man appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murdering an elderly man he suspected of witchcraft. The suspect, known as Muyambo Kapinga, aged 56, was arrested on Friday afternoon after he was reported to have hacked to death with an axe a pensioner, known as Paulus Samuhembo Hamutenya, aged 72, after the he accused the old man of practicing witchcraft. The pensioner died on the spot. “The suspect was arrested on the same day and was brought to Rundu, where he is in custody,” Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo said. Both the suspect and the deceased are residents of Tjeye village, 35 km east of Rundu in the Mashare Constituency. Kapinga appeared before Magistrate Ileni Velikoshi and was denied bail due to the seriousness of the charge against him and on the grounds that he could interfere with ongoing investigations. His case was remanded toDecember 2 for him to seek legal aid. Ester Jafet prosecuted.
