Katutura movie to premiere at 2016 Pan African Film & Arts Festival
2016-01-29Staff Report 2 " Windhoek After its fruitful screening throughout the Capital, Katutura is premiering at the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles (LA) next month.Representing the film for its first premiere in LA would be the lead actors, Tjuna Kauapirura, Gift Uzera, Chops Tshoopara, Odile Muller, and producer, Obed Emvula, and director Florian Schott. Selma Neshiko reports. PAFF is a non-profit corporation in LA, California, stating its goal as promote ""cultural understanding among peoples of African descent"" through exhibiting art and film. It hosts and arts festival in Los Angeles each February. It was named as one of the largest black film festival in the United States of America (USA). Tjuna, who plays the role of Foibe in the film cannot hide her excitement to represent the Namibia film industry in the USA with fellow actors and actresses. “I’m buzzed up, over the moon and nervous at the same time. I’m proud to be able to represent Namibia on such an avenue. It’s not every day that a local movie gets invited to a festival such as the PAFF. What a great opportunity for us to promote our country and its industry as Namibian ambassadors,” says Tjiuna. She calls on sponsors and designers (even upcoming & talented) who would want to market themselves on this avenue to get in touch with her. “I’m also very confident that as soon as potential sponsors get on board, we will be able to embark on this journey effortlessly and create networks whilst marketing ourselves and even more our country, its potential and services,” she entices. Chops Tshoopara, in the role of Dangi in the movie, can also not hold back her thrill over the opportunity. “This is a huge opportunity for me. I've made contact with radio stations for a tour of the biggest and best in LA. I have also contacted on-air personalities like Rick Dees for a chance to have a one- on-one about Hollywood and the arts. Exciting is not the word. Spine-tingling,” excites Tshoopara. The 2016 PAFF will take place from February 4- 15. Katutura tells a story of dealing with the struggle of everyday life in the township, featuring crime, drug abuse, violence and also the sense and strength of community and the bustling creativity to be found in Katutura, which roughly translated, means “no permanent living place”.
