Kavango East gets lion's share of drought relief
Kavango East region is the biggest recipient of maize with 7 500 12.5 kilogramme (kg) bags of maize and 1 800 25 kg bags of rice according to the government’s recently announced interim drought relief programme of some N$300 million. Omusati follows in a close second place with 7 000 bags of maize and 1 680 bags of rice while the Oshikoto region received 6 500 bags of maize and 1 560 bags of rice. Ohangwena got 6 000 bags of maize and 1 440 bags of rice, followed by Kavango West with 5 000 bags of maize and 1 200 bags of rice. The drought-stricken Kunene region is still to receive its 4 500 bags of maize and 1 080 bags of rice while most of the drought aid food for the other regions have been delivered in April. Oshana received 3 000 bags of maize and 720 bags of rice. //Karas received 2 000 bags of maize and 480 bags of rice, while Hardap and Omaheke got 1 000 bags of maize and 240 bags of rice each. Otjozondjupa received 3 500 bags of maize and 840 bags of rice and Erongo got 1 500 bags of maize and 360 bags of rice while Khomas received 500 bags of maize and 120 bags of rice. Zambezi received 1 000 bags of maize and 240 bags of rice.
