2015-08-05Staff Report 2 Keetmanshoop Keetmanshoop Municipality recently added a number of brand new vehicles to its operational fleet. At the cost of N$4.6 million the municipality acquired two drop-side Kia trucks, a refuse-removal truck and a sedan, to compliment the council’s efforts to improve service delivery. The two drop-side Kia trucks, purchased for the water regulation team, are fitted with canopies and toolboxes to make operations safer and more convenient for both the municipal team and customers. The CEO of Keetmanshoop Municipality, Desmond Basson, emphasised the need to upgrade the fleet, saying it will improve service delivery and customer satisfaction. “The municipal fleet was outdated and prone to breakdowns, which put a lot of pressure on operations and contributed to customer dissatisfaction,” he explained, adding that the fleet will be improved gradually as the budget allows. Dawn Kruger, the public relations officer at the municipality, said the trucks would primarily be used to attend to customer complaints, but also to do regular preventative maintenance on water and sewerage lines. She said the refuse-removal truck would be used to assist with the weekly removal of household refuse, while the grader, tipper and tractor would be used for road and parks maintenance. The municipality hopes the latest acquisition will help keep gravel roads in an acceptable condition until such time as all the roads have been tarred, as part of the ongoing upgrading process at the southern town.
