2008-05-30Staff Report 2 "By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK The normally laid back Young Ones Sport Club at the Khomasdal Sport Complex will come alive tonight with non-stop entertainment. The Bethlehem United Netball Club is hosting a Mid-Winter Dance with the exciting seven-piece ""Sigera"" live band providing the vibes. The band specia-lises in cover versions of golden oldies, fusion jazz, mbaqanga (Boy Masaka) langarm, rock and a horde of foot stomping township vibes - aimed at keeping young and ageing pairs of legs on the dance floor. Sigera consists of seasoned musicians from the early seventies who decided to make their long overdue return to the music scene after decades of self-imposed exile. The band members are no strangers on the local scene with the bulk of them having cut their teeth with renowned bands such as Baronages, Crimson, Poppets and Purple Haze. Namibia's leading bassist John ""Ta Blaar"" Camm, better known as ""Takke"" among his admirers is leading the ensemble on bass guitar with old buddies Carlos ""CK"" Kambaekwa strumming the guitar and vocals and namesake John ""Tito"" May, aka Klonkies attacking the microphone. The versatile Tony ""Tokes"" Janga has been the driving force behind the success of the band since its inception last year. Janga is Sigera's front man on Alto Saxophone while the tiny boy from Donkerhoek (Khomasdal) is also at home tickling the 6-strings. Antoinette ""the Songbird"" Janga, shares the lead vocals with Tito and the duo have struck a striking partnership that would leave Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross green with envy. Veteran drummer James Nxaba Marulakane (skins) and young pianist Waldo Xoagub (ivories) complete the line up, with Lucky Gawanab and Ronny Adams exchanging sporadic turns on guitar.
