Kilimanjaro planning to go bigger this year

The owner of the MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club, Joseph Bernard, said they plan on continuing to develop talent in the northern parts of Namibia this year.

Describing last year as one of the toughest for the stable, he observed that they nonetheless managed to hold three boxing bonanzas.

“Covid-19 was so harsh on us. So, most of the things didn’t go according to our plans, but we hope we can build on what we did last year. Although it wasn’t an easy year, we thank our sponsor MTC for making things possible for us,” Bernard said.

Heading forward, the northern-based promoter added that they will continue with their core goal of talent development, and plan to host tournaments in Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi region and other towns in the north.

“This year, we are hoping to expand and reach other towns instead of only focusing on the four regions of Omusati, Oshikoto, Ohangwena and Oshana, where most of our events were held,” he added.

Their first event for the year is set for March, and will be a professional boxing bonanza.

“We are expecting to see a lot of boxers make their debut,” he enthused.
