Kosmas Egumbo to head Old Mutual Namibia

WINDHOEk - Kosmas Egumbo has been appointed as Group Chief Executive Officer of Old Mutual Namibia with effect from 1 November 2014. The announcement was made at a media conference on Friday by Johannes !Gawaxab, Old Mutual Africa’s Managing Director.

When Egumbo takes over the reins at the beginning of  November he will be a member of the Old Mutual Africa executive team reporting to !Gawaxab as the MD: Old Mutual Africa

Egumbo will succeed Gim Victor, who upon expiry of his Old Mutual South Africa’s secondment to Namibia has been appointed Head of Distribution for Old Mutual Africa. Egumbo joined Old Mutual four years ago where his last position was chief executive of  corporate business. 

In prior roles, Egumbo was the CEO of Namibia’s national airline and prior to that held senior executive roles at the City of Windhoek and GTZ (a German development cooperation agency). His career spans roles he held across sectors such as finance, aviation, energy and development.

Said !Gawaxab: “Egumbo brings with him a passion to lead the team to greater heights and to make Old Mutual Namibia an even greater place to work. His high drive to achieve results and diverse leadership and management experience, will serve him well as he takes over the helm in Namibia and successfully engages all our stakeholders.”

 A key part of Egumbo’s responsibility will be to help Od Mutual Namibia deliver on its stated strategic objective of maintaining its market leading position, accelerating the delivery of its corporate strategy including digital distribution strategy and the continued strengthening of local talent development.

Old Mutual Namibia has also made other appointments, including the appointment of Lionel Kannemeyer, current Sales Head for Corporate Business, who assumes the CEO: Corporate role as of 1 November, while Nico Hoabeb will assume the position of Retail Mass Executive from 1 January 2015, after his four-year stint as CEO: Swaziland. 

Also, Martha Murorua has been appointed as Executive: Strategic Initiatives as of 1 January, 2015 and will oversee several strategic initiatives for Old Mutual Namibia as well as an accelerated and structured development programme commitment over the next 12 months. This programme will include attachments to Old Mutual South Africa.
