Liberian President to Visit Namibia
"By Petronella Sibeene WINDHOEK Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, is scheduled to arrive in Namibia on Sunday for a three-day State visit, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology announced yesterday. This will be the first time Africa's first elected female head of state visits the country since taking office on January 16, 2006. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is yet to finalise the programme. Johnson-Sirleaf was elected president in the 2005 presidential election where she defeated international soccer star George Weah. Turning 70 on October 29, the ""Iron Lady"" as she is commonly referred to, will lead an 18-member delegation and will arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport on Sunday afternoon. Johnson-Sirleaf leads a nation that has been torn by civil wars for the last 25 years. She lived through Liberia's civil wars and spent time in jail under a military dictatorship in the 1980s. Former Liberian President Charles Taylor charged her with treason. "
