Libraries to Get 3 New Books
"By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK ""I am profoundly pleased to start the new year with a book sponsorship of three books of which each secondary school in Namibia will add to their school libraries, not for display but for reading."" This was said by the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Becky Ndjoze-Ojo, when she addressed learners of Jan Jonker Afrikaner Secondary School on Thursday. The FNB Foundation handed a number of books written by Namibians to the school. Principals and the LRCs from several other schools attended the occasion. ""The sponsorship of the FNB Foundation is an excellent combination of art and culture, history and politics as well as financial management. I am proud to officiate at this hand-over ceremony where the libraries of all senior secondary schools will be stocked with these good reading materials. ""I have gone through the books myself and I see no reason why students cannot pass subjects covering the content of these books. The authors wrote these books in layman's language, easy for everyone to understand,"" Ndjoze-Ojo said. She also encouraged students and learners of all secondary schools to intensify their reading culture and habits - the only way to enrich their general knowledge. ""The FNB Foundation is donating these books to secondary schools by Namibian authors because thousands of learners and students will need these materials to enrich their personal and human capacities to become well-informed future leaders,"" said the chairperson of the FNB Foundation, Jutta Rohwer, at the same occasion.
