2016-01-28Staff Report 2 "Windhoek Despite having failed to deliver promised boxing bonanzas to fans on a few occasions, coupled with their startling disappearance from the local boxing scene, promoter-cum-boxer of Warriors Boxing Promotions Joseph ‘Smokey’ Hilongwa insists they are well alive and still relevant. In a brief interview with New Era Sport yesterday, Hilongwa, however, despite the reassurance, admitted that it has not been easy keeping themselves afloat in the multimillion-dollar business of boxing, but remains confident the situation will soon be remedied with the injection of a headline sponsor in due time. “Rumours that our academy has closed for business are pure hogwash. We are still active and well alive on the local boxing scene. Obviously without a title sponsor it is very difficult for one to survive in this game of boxing, that’s why we have been struggling to stage events in recent times,” said Hilongwa. “I also admit that we have been absent for quite some time now but trust me, we have been very busy behind closed doors talking to various business owners and companies. At the moment there is not feedback from the various negotiations we held but I remain positive we will secure a sponsor. If you speak of local boxing, Warriors Boxing Promotions is still a huge force to be reckoned with.” “Once we have something concrete on paper, we will communicate with all our fans,” he adds. Warriors Boxing Promotions was established in 2010 and currently houses more than 20 professional and amateur boxers in its stable.
