2006-02-27Staff Report 2 By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK Last year's runner-up play in the annual Youth Theatre Festival, Living Hell, starts its rural run in communities at six selected Southern towns. The play, scheduled to be performed next month at the Bravo Theatre Festival in Finland, was written and will be performed by playwright Richard Swartz. The work, also scheduled to be performed in July at the Grahamstown Arts Festival, will be performed this morning at Gaogeb Secondary School in Gibeon, as part of Committed Artists of Namibia's educational theatre outreach programme. A second show will be staged tonight at Mariental in aid of fundraising for the local youth theatre group at the town. Other performances of Living Hell are scheduled for Schlip (March 03), Rehoboth (June 24), Karasburg (July 07) and Keetmanshoop (August 10). The short theatre rural tour is sponsored by the Franco-Namibian Cultural Center (FNCC). The Finnish embassy in Windhoek is paying for the production's run at the Bravo Theatre Festival. As part of a theatre exchange programme between Finland and Namibia, a Finnish director will work with the playwright of Living Hell before it is staged in Finland.
