2016-09-30Staff Report 2 Lüderitz !Nami#Nus Constituency Councilor Jan Scholtz has expressed his gratitude that the people of Lüderitz, especially the youth and children, are once again the beneficiaries of tools of empowerment to further their education. Scholtz said this during the handing over of a donation for 10 computers and one colour printer machine, valued N$120 000, donated by Debmarine- Namdeb Foundation to Luderitz public library, on Wednesday 28 September. He further said the donation comes at the right time, as people are celebrating the Day of the Namibian Child. Scholtz said that education is the greatest equaliser, and the provision of the new equipment for use by the public will greatly enhance the quality of education of children, while allowing the youth greater access to up-to-date information. Scholtz said the spurring on of education is something he holds close to his heart and as such he commended Debmarine -Namdeb Foundation for the initiative. He also thanked the curators and administrators of the public library for being a worthy recipient of such goodwill. Councillor Scholtz called on all students, youth and the general public to utilise the facilities to educate themselves in all their relevant fields and disciplines, as a means of alleviating poverty in the community. He warned the public not to damage the equipment, or misuse it for nefarious or negative purposes. Debmarine Namdeb Foundation executive manager Janita Von Wielligh said Debmarine-Namdeb Foundation is prepared to donate what they can with the little they have. She encouraged the youth to use these equipment wisely. As part of its social responsibility the Foundation's main focus is to support education, as evidenced in the donation of ICT equipment whereby a lot of people can benefit. The Foundation receives more than 400 applications per year. The donated printer is a colour printer, as the kids need to print in colour, in order to do their school projects. She said the last time she visited Lüderitz public library she noted that the library need a lots of books. Therefore, she promised to bring more books, as they are already busy collecting second-hand books to hand over to the library. Librarian Beverley Van Wyk thanked Debmarine-Namdeb Foundation for donating theequipment and explained that the library only had 10 computers, which it received from the Ministry of Education in 2010. With the latest donation by Debmarine -Namdeb Foundation the library now has 20 computers. Van Wyk explained that the general publicuses the library frequently and also enjoy free internet there. She also said that she provides free computer training, whereafter they give attendance certificate to those who attended the training. 2016-09-30Staff Report 2
