Lüderitz joins world in celebrating Olympic Day
Lüderitz The Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) mobilised Lüderitz residents to join and celebrate the Olympic Day on Saturday. The day was celebrated in style, with different sport codes such as football, netball and volleyball topping the day’s activities. In the football section, Nautilus Primary School beat Dias Primary School 3-1; Angra Pequena Senior Secondary School defeated Lüderitz Junior Secondary School 3-1, while Namdeb overcame a stubborn Namport side 2 -0. B&E also recorded a 3-1 victory over Wynbach, which saw them proceed to the final where they met Namdeb. B&E defeated Namdeb 3-2 on penalties to win the final. In the netball section, Helen van Rhjin Primary School defeated Diaz Primary School 9-4, while Nautilus Senior Secondary School thumped the Veterans team 10-5. During the official opening of the games, NNOC representative Annatjie Geleni said the day was organised to commemorate the founding of the Olympic movement and also to share the joy of sport and fellowship rooted in Olympic values.
