Lynette to showcase artworks in Australia
Windhoek Namibian textile designer, Lynette Diergaardt, has been invited to participate in the international art and research project 'Artists from the edges of the world.' The project will be hosted at White Well on the Nullabor Plain in the South Australian Outback this October. With more than 20 Australian artists and strong community leaders such as Mima Smart and Josie McArthur, Lynette will participate in a rich cross-cultural collaboration that focuses on textile, media and installation art. Other international textile artists, designers and researchers who will be part of the project include Satu Miettinen, Maria Keskipoikela, Tarja Wallius, Daria Akimenko, Birgitta Sassi and Nuno Escudeiro. The Namibian arts educator, with a Bachelor of Art in Textiles Studies, says this project will allow her to further her knowledge in field research and art practice. With this, Lynette also hopes to apply it in her lecturing at the University of Namibia (Unam). “I enjoy teaching art and working on interesting product development ideas in my free time. I love to recycle fabrics into new products and to work on concepts for my fine art work,” says Lynette. She adds that, with this project, she hope to use the opportunity to build contacts with artists and people from around the world. However, nothing is guaranteed yet regarding Lynette’s trip to Australia until she secures sponsorship is also looking her flight ticket and visa.
