Man allegedly shoots mother to death
Windhoek A 30-year-old man is due to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court today for allegedly shooting his elderly mother, 63, to death on Sunday at Onaidjimba village in Okalongo Constituency. The rotting body of the pensioner was only discovered on Wednesday, police say. Inspector Slogan Matheus from the Public Relations Department of the Namibian Police said that the mother and son allegedly had an argument, resulting in the man shooting his mother, Saara Kauna Shimuni, with a pistol. She died on the spot. Shimuni is a retired police officer, while the son who cannot be named until he appears in court is a former Namibian Defence Force member, who had resigned from the force. The man was arrested on Wednesday at a friend’s place in Oshakati, Matheus added. The murder was allegedly only discovered Wednesday when Shimuni’s nephew called her and she did not answer. The nephew went into Shimuni’s house but upon arrival at the house he was met by a strong smell and flies around the house that prompted him to call the police. The police broke down the locked door and entered the house, where they found the dead woman.
