Man dies after fight over home brew
Ongwediva A 21-year-old man lost his life over the weekend apparently after he brawled with a woman over traditional brew at Oudhiya location at Iishanaputa village near Onesi. Simon Nakale from Eunda village died on the spot after he was severely hit with a palm stick by the suspect. The incident happened at 23h00 on Saturday. According to the police spokesperson in Omusati Region Sergeant Anna Kunga, it is alleged the victim entered the suspect’s cuca shop and proceeded to drink epwaka, a traditional brew, without paying for it. “He allegedly took the epwaka without the cuca shop owner’s consent,” said Kunga. Epwaka, a brew equivalent to tombo, costs about N$2 a drink. The suspect allegedly pleaded with the victim to pay for the brew, which was in vain. It is alleged that a fight then broke out between the two and the suspect allegedly took a dried palm stick to heat the deceased. According to Kunga the deceased sustained injuries all over his body. The suspect, the 47-year-old Loide Matheus, was arrested and made her first appearance in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Matheus was not granted bail and her case was postponed to March 16. Police investigations into the matter continue.
