Man Drinks Himself To Death?
By Michael Liswaniso OPUWO Barely weeks after one person reportedly died from drinking too much alcohol, the police at Opuwo have recorded a second case after another person lost his life under similar circumstances. Early this year, one person died after he drank one too many at an informal settlement. This time around, Mbunguhaa Hatjirume (41) died after he reportedly consumed too much alcohol last Thursday. Information based on preliminary police investigations indicates the now deceased and other members of the community drank a traditional brew known as Okandjembo to excess. He was found dead in nearby bushes at the village. Villagers suspect because of too much drinking. His body was taken to the Opuwo Police Mortuary. His next of kin have been informed though they are still waiting for the results of a post mortem conducted at Oshakati. Another unnatural death was also reported at Otjitunganane village where a male identified as Mutambo Uakurisa was also found dead. Police investigations were continuing. Some Namibians take their drinking very seriously, and two years ago their drinking merited presidential mention, when President Hefikepunye Pohamba enjoined Namibians to take it easy on the bottle, saying he would be ashamed if the country he were leading turned out to be one of drunkards.
