Man shoots lover in the head and kills himself
Ongwediva A man fatally shot his live-in partner of 19 years through the head with a pistol before he turned the gun on himself in Tsumeb on Saturday. Police Regional Commander in the Oshikoto Region, Commissioner Anne-Marie Nainda told New Era that the now deceased assailant and his victim each had a gunshot wound to the head. Two spent cartridges were found at the scene. The incident occurred at 23h00 at Saamstaan location. “The two each had one gunshot in the head… but the post-mortem will be able to reveal if there were more [shots],” Commissioner Nainda said. The couple had been romantically involved for the past 19 years and has been living together for a number of years. They have three children. According to Commissioner Nainda, 37-year-old Willem Jossy Khaib came home drunk on Saturday night and an argument broke out between the two. Their children, who were also at home at the time, reportedly heard their parents arguing shortly before two gunshots went off in the couple’s bedroom. Details about the cause and content of their alleged argument are not known by the police. The deceased woman was identified as 37-year-old Eveline Kharises. She was an employee at Dros Restaurant in Tsumeb, while her partner was unemployed. Their next of kin have been informed. The Oshikoto police are investigating the ownership of the pistol used in the killing.
