2006-02-27Staff Report 2 "By Kuvee Kangueehi WINDHOEK The rift within the Mbanderu community took a new turn when on Tuesday night members of the Mbanderu who call themselves the 'Concerned Group' elected Nelson Hauanga as their new representative in Windhoek under Chief Munjuku Nguvauva. At the meeting, which was attended by 136 people, Hauanga and four councillors were elected to lead the Concerned Group in Windhoek. The latest move is a clear indication that the Concerned Group is not ready to back down in their stalemate against the Mbanderu Traditional Authority. The spokesperson for the Concerned Group, Paul Kahorere, said they decided to elect their own representative because the representative of the Mbanderu Chief in Windhoek Ripuree Tjozongoro has ""deserted"" them. "" We are like sheep without a shepherd and that is why we elected Hauanga to take care of us."" Kahorere charged that Tjozongoro, besides neglecting them, does not live in Windhoek any longer. Although the Concerned Group has not officially broken away from formal Mbanderu structures under Chief Munjuku Nguvauva, they continue to build their own structures by appointing their own representatives in the different constituencies. Last year, the Aminuis Mbanderu Community removed their councillor Ludwig Karumendu and replaced him with Sondi Tjiroze, a move Nguvauva did not endorse. Kahorere said the Concerned Group would again ask Nguvauva to give his blessing to the Chief Representative. The group is led by Erastus Kahuure and has lodged a legal battle to reverse the adoption of the constitution. At the meeting, members were urged to give financial contributions to pay for the legal costs. The appointment of Hauanga is likely to be good news for Kahuure, who has been gaining support since his fallout with Nguvauva almost six months ago. Kahuure is believed to have a strong following in Windhoek, Aminuis and Otjombinde, but not Epukiro, the bedrock of Nguvauva's support as well as Eiseb Block." 2006-02-27Staff Report 2
