Mbidi denies Shipanga’s appointment
Contrary to reports that the Namibia Football Association (NFA) has appointed much-adored FIFA accredited football coach Jacqui Shipanga to replace the outgoing Klaus Staerke as the new technical director, NFA President Frans Mbidi has dismissed the rumour as hogwash. ‘It’s indeed true that the position is currently vacant after Staerke’s contract expired but we are a democratic institution guided by ethics and usually conduct our business by the book. We are going to advertise the position to give all suitable candidates a fair chance to apply, so we hope to complete that process very soon,” says Mbidi. Mbidi does not rule out Shipanga as a strong candidate to land the NFA top job, but was quick to mention that the matter should be allowed to be conducted transparently and follow due process. “We are not ruling out any local applicants but we want to cast the net wide and see whether we can attract the best suitable candidates for the vacancy since it’s a very vital position.” However, sources close to Football House are adamant that Shipanga’s appointment is a done and dusted deal and only the dotting of the i’s and crossing of the t’s remain before the appointment is endorsed. Shipanga is the incumbent head coach of the fast-improved Brave Gladiators and boasts a remarkable resume. She enjoys massive respect and vast support from the world’s football governing body FIFA and is accredited for her immense contribution to the rapid growth of women’s football in Namibia.
