Members of National UNESCO Commission appointed
Higher Education, Training and Innovation Minister Dr Itah Kandjii-Murangi on Thursday appointed commissioners of the Namibia National Commission for UNESCO. ‘’I am delighted that I can officially appoint and inaugurate the members of the executive committee of the Namibia national commission for UNESCO,” Kandjii-Murangi said. “These members of the executive committee, also referred to as commissioners, are distinguished personalities who have the requisite expertise, experience and skills in the various fields of UNESCO’s competence, namely education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and communication and information,” the minister said. Rod April, Edda Bohn, Prof Tjama Tjivikua, Veno Kauaria, Florence Haifene, Nelson Prada, Joyce Nakuta, Dr Ellen Namhila, Patrick Haingura and Pule Diamonds will serve as members of the executive committee of UNESCO. National commissions for UNESCO form part of the overall constitutional architecture of the UN organisation. The Namibia National Commission for UNESCO was established in 1992 as an organ under the ministry responsible for higher education. National Commissions are set up by their respective governments, in accordance with Article VII of the UNESCO Constitution.
