2008-04-16Staff Report 2 By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK The 3rd round of the Namibian Motocross Championship race - officially known as the Wesbank Motocross Challenge - will take place this Saturday at the Gallina Motocross Race Track north of Windhoek. Wesbank, a subsidiary arm of First National Bank of Namibia, has been true to the sport for the past 5 years. The Gallina Motocross Park is situated on the road to Okahandja and is part of the Waldschmidt Egg Farm. With two races already under the belt, everything remains open with the country's leading riders having left their mark in their respective categories. In the Open Class, Rainer Becker on his Pupkewitz-Honda is currently leading the pack with the most number of points but will face stiff competition from Tommie Gous (Zenner Yamaha). Gous has been the victim of technical hiccups and it would only be a matter of time before the veteran rider reclaims the leading role. However, Becker has intensified his training programme in the meantime and motocross enthusiasts can look forward to some adrenaline pumping action. Ronnie Adams on his fast as lightning Suzuki would also like to have a piece of the action as well after overcoming problems to his front suspension. Another strong rider during the Astra race was Wolfgang Rohe on a Kawasaki, and one can also expect Scotsman Richard Reid amongst the leading pack. Tony Viljoen and Jacques du Plessis have shown plenty of improvement of late and could prove a tough nut to crack as well. The 125cc riders start together with the Open Class, but will be assessed separately. Reigning champion Frank Klosta is bound to show his competitors a clean pair of heels. The trio of Henry O'Kennedy, Jaco Loots and Ruhan Gous showed tremendous improvement during the Astra Race and their riding was really worth watching. The hotshots Eckhard Hall and KTM-specialist Heiko Hennes will definitely not want to miss out on the action. The riding pair of Brannigan Wise and Arno Engels are crossing their fingers as they still await to be given a clean bill of health by their doctor and their participation remains in doubt. The absolute number one at the moment in the 65cc Class is Tristan Muller, while Matthew Nederlof seems to have minor problems with his new bike. The little Angolan Joshua Texeira's performance during the Astra race was quite noteworthy, and Lee-Anne Smith naturally wants a podium spot as well and will fight till the fat lady sings. 2008-04-16Staff Report 2
