MUN leader to be buried at Nkurenkuru
Windhoek Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) president Raimo Hausiku, who died earlier this week, will be buried at his home town Nkurenkuru, Kavango West Region, on Saturday, union leaders said. Hausiku, 35, who was also a member of the Namibia Health Plan (NHP) Board of Trustees died on Monday evening on the road between Okahandja and Otjiwarongo. He was travelling with the union’s vice-secretary for the western region Regina Nambahu and the union driver Gerson Tjipueja, who both survived the accident. He is survived by his wife Loide Hausiku and three daughters – Sirkka Kahirimana, 9, Jemimah Hausiku, 4, and Liya Hausiku, 2. A memorial service will be held today at 17h00 at the residence of the governor of Kavango West Region, Sirkka Ausiku. National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) president Ismael Kasuto this week said the federation was looking forward to Hausiku’s leadership in taking forward the working class struggle, before he was killed in a car crash. “The untimely loss of Hausiku is a tragic loss not only to his family but to his colleagues, friends and the country at large,” Kasuto said. “We are devastated by the ordeal that we still need to come to terms with. We shall miss his exemplary leadership morals. May his soul rest in peace,” he added. MUN secretary general Eben Zarondo described Hausiku as the dedicated, hardworking, persuasive and friendly young leader who always strived for the best. “We will surely miss him,” said Zarondo, adding that Hausiku died while on a mission to fight for workers’ rights. According to Zarondo the car in which Hausiku was travelling hit a kudu at around 20:30. The accident took place about 70 kilometres from Otjiwarongo. He died on the spot. Hausiku was elected as MUN president in October 2015, replacing MUN president Ismael Kasuto who was elected as NUNW president. Before that Hausiku served as MUN Rössing Uranium mine branch organiser.
