2016-02-24Staff Report 2 Windhoek The National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) emergency central committee will meet next week Saturday to decide the fate of its secretary general Job Muniaro, New Era has been informed. Muniaro is accused of, among others, defying orders from the federation president Ismael Kasuto and vice-president Albert Liswaniso. He is also accused of holding press conferences without consulting his superiors. New Era was reliably informed that leaders of several affiliate unions will meet on March 5 to discuss whether Muniaro is to be suspended or not. When contacted for comment yesterday, Kasuto confirmed the meeting but said there was no formal communication yet. “We still have to decide whether this will be an exco meeting or a central committee meeting,” he said, adding that if the meeting goes ahead it will only discuss the issuing of press releases. Liswaniso the NUNW vice-president yesterday confirmed receiving the circular, saying that he was not aware the meeting was going to discuss Muniaro’s fate. “Yes I have received the circular. I can’t remember whether it was from the president or who – all I know is that the proposed date was March 5,” he said. Muniaro yesterday refused to confirm that a meeting was scheduled to discuss his fate. “I am not aware of any planned meeting, I am hearing it from you,” said Muniaro. Muniaro was elected as the federation secretary general during the NUNW congress at Swakopmund last year. He acted in that position since the suspension of Alfred Angula in 2013 on allegations of fraud. Angula replaced former NUNW secretary general Evilastus Kaaronda, who was expelled in 2012. During the congress in Swakopmund last year Muniaro obtained 123 votes, beating John Ndeutepo who obtained 85 votes. 2016-02-24Staff Report 2
