Muti and spirits do not cure illnesses, says Dr Haufiku
Oshakati The Minister of Health and Social Services Dr Bernard Haufiku has advised supplement and vitamin vendors to desist from making money by selling fake cures in the name of health. Dr Haufiku warned vendors in the business to stop misleading the public by making false claims that vitamins can cure multiple illnesses. “It does not happen. You are lying to the community. If you are selling [vitamin] supplements, just say so,” Haufiku advised. He warned that vendors making such outlandish and false claims that one type of medication can cure many illnesses are misleading the public. He further bemoaned the fact that these vendors have become ever so popular on the Oshiwambo radio service of the NBC. Minister Haufiku further encouraged patients not to default on their treatment programmes and reiterated his call to patients to stay away from self-professed healers. “Some of you go to the sangomas to get muti or for prayers to cure your illnesses, but diseases are not treated with spirits,” Haufiku emphasised. Haufiku was responding to questions posed by members of the public at a meeting with the regional leadership and the Head of State, Dr Hage Geingob, in the Oshana Region on Friday.
