2013-10-15Staff Report 2 WINDHOEK – The Windhoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced Claudia Johannes to 30 days’ imprisonment, alternatively a N$300 fine for stealing trousers worth N$170. Johannes had pleaded guilty telling Magistrate Ingrid Unengu that she is an unemployed mother of five children of whom the youngest is five months old. However, state prosecutor George Mhoney argued that even though Johannes did plead guilty and showed remorse, the fact remains that theft out of shops is prevalent in Windhoek. He wanted the court to send out a strong message that such kind of theft would not be tolerated and proposed a fine of N$500 or five months’ imprisonment. By Roland Routh 2013-10-15Staff Report 2
