NAC rescue and firefighting trainees graduate
Windhoek In line with their ‘safe and secure’ strategic mission for airports, the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) held a graduation ceremony for 21 rescue and firefighting trainees at Walvis Bay Airport last Friday. The NAC says that it prides itself on providing safe and secure airports and earlier this year recruited a group of 53 rescue and firefighting trainees of whom 21 underwent training since April 2015 at Walvis Bay Airport. The training was facilitated by Indiza Fire and Training Services, South Africa. Toska Sem, Strategic Executive at NAC, said the company spent close to N$1.6 million for the training and will continue to empower its workforce. “Compliance with airports operation regulations is very paramount to our core business and this training is one of those that directly speaks to our mission of safe and secure airports. We will continue to work hard to ensure that we offer the best possible facilities to our clientele,” said Sem. She added that the second group of intakes is undergoing training at Eros Airport in Windhoek and due to complete training by February 2016. The 21 rescue and firefighters also completed a Basic Emergency Care course, facilitated by Emergency Management Training and Specialist Services (EMTSS). Indiza Fire and Training Services Director Riaan Cilliers commended the graduates for the job well done. “You have demonstrated incredible dedication to this course and I have no doubt that you will add value to NAC and move forward. I call upon your diligence in the execution of your duties which are very important for the safety of airports in Namibia and beyond,” said Cilliers. The new personnel will report at Eros Airport on December 14 to be informed of their workstations. NAC manages eight national airports which have different rescue and firefighting categories that require a certain number of personnel for each.
