NAFAWU to hold congress in March
"Tsumeb The Namibia Fuel and Allied Workers Union (NAFAWU) will hold its congress at Oshakati on March 4 where it will elect a new leadership, as the current leadership’s term expired in December 2015. According to secretary general of NAFAWU David Frans, in terms of NAFAWU’s Constitution the union is obliged to call a national congress once the incumbent leadership’s term expires. “We will gather there to elect new delegates or re-elect the current leadership. However, the election of office-bearers will be strictly done only by those that are legitimate associates with proof of membership,” Frans explained. The 2016 congress will be held under the theme: “Change the System of Poor Working Conditions at Service Stations.” Frans said the congress will be attended only by delegates, as per the union’s constitution, and only members who meet the criteria will be allowed to participate. “I urge all constituencies to finalise their nominations for the delegate to represent them at this event since only 28 delegates will be allowed, as per the union Constitution. ""All the matters affecting the members and the union in particular will be submitted and dealt with [at congress], including the secretary’s report and the gazetting of adjustment proposals for the minimum wage for 2016/2017,” Frans explained."
