Naidjala, Ushona can redeem themselves
WINDHOEK - Following last year’s demoralizing defeat against Argentinean boxer Dario Fabian Pucheta, one of Namibia’s most skilful boxers and former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) African welterweight champion, Bethuel ‘Tyson’ Ushona, will make his much-anticipated return at this month’s Independence Boxing Bonanza. Slated for the Ramatex factory hall on March 20, the much-hyped Independence Boxing Bonanza will feature the crème de la crème of Namibian boxing led by Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses, Tyson Ushona, Immanuel ‘Prince’ Naidjala, Vikapita ‘Beast Master’ Meroro, Julius ‘Blue Machine’ Indongo, and Walter ‘Executioner’ Kautondokwa, to mention but a few. According to award-winning boxing promoter Nestor Tobias, Ushona has fully regained his confidence and will seek to redeem himself when he squares up against the equally dangerous Tshepo Mandawe from South Africa in a non-title 8-rounder. Ushona who currently boast an impressive record of 32 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw from a total of 36 fights, will be expected to be in superb form and ready to reclaim his place in the top echelons of African boxing with a possible win over Mandawe. Also on the redemption path is Prince Naidjala who last year relinquished his WBO Africa bantamweight crown when he lost to South African boxer Gideon Buthelezi. Naidjala is set to lock horns with Robert Kachiza from Malawi in what is expected to be a do-or-die fight for the hard-punching young Namibian as a likely victory will signal a fresh start. Naidjala holds a record of 19 wins, 2 losses and a draw from 22 bouts, while his opponent Kachiza has a somewhat equally impressive record of 9 wins and 5 losses from 14 fights in the paid ranks. Also in action will be Hitman Moses who defends his WBO international lightweight title against Malcolm Klaasen from South Africa, while ‘Beast Master’ Meroro will take on Omour Mzungu from Tanzania in a international cruiserweight 10-rounder. ‘Blue Machine’ Indongo will also put his WBO junior welterweight title on the line when he squares up against Ibrahim Class from Tanzania. There will also be other attractive undercard bouts to keep spectators on their toes on a night that will celebrate Namibia’s 25th independence anniversary. Entrance fee is N$30 for general tickets and N$200 for VIP tickets. Action starts at18h30.
