Namibia needs entrepreneurial citizens – Pohamba
"Rundu Former president Hifikepunye Pohamba says Namibia requires men and women who are entrepreneurial in nature and able to create employment for themselves and others. ""That is why programmes that emphasise entrepreneurial skills are being supported and promoted,"" Pohamba said. Pohamba was speaking in his capacity as the chancellor of the University of Namibia (Unam) at the graduation ceremony held at Unam Rundu Campus last Thursday, where 79 graduates were awarded their Bachelor of Education Honours in Pre, Lower and Upper Primary Education, while nine were awarded a Diploma in  Entrepreneurship  and New Venture Management. ""It was not long ago that I stood on this podium addressing a similar graduation ceremony here in Rundu. Here we are again today, witnessing another crop of young Namibians receiving their tertiary qualifications. This is an indication that Namibia is moving forward,"" Pohamba stated. Pohamba further told graduates that as they enter the world of work, their conduct should reflect the values they have nurtured during the years of their education at the Rundu campus, which are hard work, commitment and dedication. ""These are values which should guide you as you strive to achieve excellence in your lives and serve your communities and our country to the best of your abilities,"" Pohamba said. Pohamba observed that the growing and diverse number of students graduating at the university's satellite campuses, for example the Rundu campus, attests to the fact that access to tertiary education is expanding rapidly. ""Education is the greatest equaliser and the university offers graduates ammunition to eradicate poverty as expounded through President Dr Hage Geingob's declaration of  a war on poverty. As chancellor I am pleased to be part of this great university family and its contribution to this common struggle."" ""Like freedom fighters who fought for our country's freedom, you also demonstrated commitment and determination to complete your mission and receive your qualifications. It was not easy by any means but you preserved. We are proud of you,"" Pohamba said.      "
