2015-09-23Staff Report 2 Windhoek With the Namibian government set to entirely overhaul its sport fraternity, the Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, is confident the time is ripe for the country to start learning from the best in the world. Speaking at the official welcoming ceremony of renowned Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce at Hosea Kutako International Airport yesterday, Tjongarero said Namibia plans to further strengthen various bilateral relations with countries like Jamaica to learn and share expertise in different areas, particularly in sports. “Fraser-Pryce’s arrival here is a clear indication of the direction in which we want to move. We want people who can inspire the Namibian child and Fraser-Pryce is one such person. Today marks a historic day for Namibia as the world’s fastest woman is here in our very own backyard, and she is here to motivate and tell her story to all aspiring Namibian athletes,” said Tjongarero. “Through her and other world superstars that we might bring in the near future, we are optimistic their stories will bring hope to the hopeless and make all our athletes aware that they too can become champions.” “With such relations between countries like Jamaica and others, I am confident Namibia will continue to learn and benefit as we embark on a mission to produce future world champions and I really think we are going in the right direction,’’ said Tjongarero. 2015-09-23Staff Report 2
