2008-03-06Staff Report 2 "By John Ekongo WINDHOEK State-owned Namib National Reinsurance Company (NAMIBRE), on Tuesday donated some school equipment to the Ekuku Junior Primary School in the Oshikoto Region. Managing Director of NAMIBRE Anna Nakale-Kawana, said that her company as part of its social responsibility decided to donate an all-utility purpose printer, scanner, fax and phone, after a request was put through to her company by the patron of the school Festus Mbandeka. The communication devices are valued at about N$5 000. The patron of the school, Mbandeka, said that he approached various organizations for donations, but with no results. Only NAMIBRE answered their call. Mbandeka expressed delight over the donation and said that he would make sure that the equipment would be put to good use. A senior education official who witnessed the handing over ceremony, Dr Inaani Kahikuata, from the Ministry of Education, remarked: ""It is good that companies are reinvesting in schools - this will assist Government in improving school resources. We are very much pleased with this gesture."" Aside from the donation, the insurance company also made public their sponsorship to two needy students who are studying commercial and financial related subjects at the Polytechnic of Namibia and the University of Namibia, respectively. The latter, announced Nakale-Kawana, has since been taken up by the University of Cape Town in South Africa, after showing strong performances academically at the local university. An Act of Parliament established NAMIBRE in 1998. Its beginnings were bumpy and it was only able to kick-start operations in August of 2000.
