Soon after successfully defending his national junior lightweight title against a stubborn David Shinuna on Saturday, Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo called out WBO Global super bantamweight Philipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa for a fight.

“I want the energy man. If he is ready to fight me, we can set it up; it’s the fight I’ve always wanted,” said Nangolo. His title defence was the main bout of the AC Boxing Academy boxing bonanza in the capital.

Nangolo proved to be the better boxer on the night, winning by a unanimous decision. At the end of the 10-round bout, a confident Nangolo said it was not a tough fight, and he was happy with his performance.

“I managed to take it up step by step and get a win, and I am overall happy with the way I have performed today,” he said. The encounter started with good toe-to-toe boxing, with both boxers throwing head and body shots and oozing confidence at the end of the first round.

In the second round, Nangolo upped his dominance as he continued to jab Shinuna, who fired some heavy punches but these did not land successfully. In the fourth round, Shinuna started to pick up his pace and seemed to be posing a threat to Nangolo. However, Nangolo kept him at bay, and managed to register his ninth win from nine fights.

In the main supporting bout, Alfeus ‘Mosquito’ Shaanika managed to stop Hedison Hipondokwa with a technical knockout in the second round of their national welterweight eliminator.

Meanwhile, Hafeni Ngesheya stopped Shanyangange Shanyangane in the third round with a technical knockout in the lightweight division, while Shikukutu Jona also beat Robert Ndalelwa with a technical knockout. In the junior bantamweight, Johhny Herman defeated Jacob Jacob via a split decision.

In the featherweight division, Petrus Salomon was crowned winner against Alweendo Nicanor, while Ruaan Rispel continued his impressive run, winning his bout against Johannes David in the lightweight division. Fillipus Amaamwa claimed victory over Petrus Mathew in the welterweight division.
