National Drag Racing Leg 4… Willie van der Merwe’s Mazda RX7 came out tops
2014-11-06Staff Report 2 "OKAHANDJA – The Leg 4 of the Namibia Motor Sports Federation (NMSF) National Drag Racing series took place on the 1 November 2014 in Okahandja. The event saw a total of 22 entries with a diverse variety of vehicles. All the classes were represented in a great day of racing. Class A1 – 1600cc had a good dice between the bantam of Heyman and the VW Mk1 of Malherbe running closely in the 16.6 second category. Class A2 – 2000cc had the most competition with VW Golf 2.0l abusing the Honda contingent that made the journey. These drives ran a total of 60 races and continued to challenge each other to the bitter end. The VW of P Sternberg coming out on top with a time of 15.207 second followed by F de Rebeira at 15.328sec. The turbo front wheel drive class was dominated by the FRC crew with Lester da Silva doing a 13.116 second pass in his Golf GTi 6 and Marlon van Reenen do 13.309 in a similar vehicle. The show stop of the day was Willie van der Merwe in his Mazda RX7 with a 1J Supra motor he clocked an impressive 12.34 seconds for his first outing with this vehicle. On the other side of the coin we had Deon Diergaardt in his Corolla Turbo that did 13.457 also his first time out in this vehicle. Being first timers, surely their time should improve in the future with more participation at such similar events. The event turned out to be a huge success all thanks to the organizers being Road Aces Windhoek, Outlaw Motor Club and Okahandja Motor Club. Below is a list of the top 5 overall winners
