NaTIS to spread its wings to Kavango West
"Nkurenkuru The inhabitants of Kavango West will no longer have to travel long distances to Rundu or elsewhere for vehicle licensing and vehicle registrations, as the Roads Authority (RA) plans to open a NaTIS office in August at Nkurenkuru, the capital of the underdeveloped Kavango West Region. Over the years NaTIS Rundu has catered for all the inhabitants of the then vast Kavango Region, which was recently demarcated into Kavango West and East. NaTIS Rundu still catered for both regions after the demarcation and thus always experienced overcrowding and long queues. Speaking to New Era, RA corporate communications manager Hileni Fillemon said they are in the process of establishing a NaTIS office in Nkurenkuru, however the new office will only provide vehicle registration and licensing. No vehicle roadworthy tests or driver testing will be offered at that NaTIS office for the time being. Learner license testing will also be introduced at a later stage. ""We’re going to appoint people that will get trained and we will also get staff from other NaTIS offices in other towns just to help with the transition. Our plan is to open in August,"" Fillemon said. Kavango West residents will still have to obtain their learner’s and driver’s licences and vehicle roadworthy certificates in Rundu. Currently people of Kavango West have to travel from all corners of the region to Rundu in the Kavango East Region to access NaTIS services, which has proven to be a challenge for many, but that may soon be a thing of the past. The new office scheduled to open in August and all staff will be under the RA’s administration. For now the RA will rent the premises it will be operating from.    "
