NBL and Nafau sign substantive agreement

Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL), a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group, signed their substantive agreement on 10 September 2021 with the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (Nafau).

It is effective for the period 01 July 2021 to 30 June 2023. A round robin resolution was signed by the respective parties on 24 June 2021 for the implementation of wage increases effective 01 July 2021, however, due to Covid-19 regulations that limited face-to-face gatherings, the substantive agreement was only signed on 10 September 2021.

Simon Muukapo, the Nafau regional coordinator for the central region said, “I would like to give a big thanks to the NBL workers, more specifically the negotiation team from NBL management and Nafau officials. The negotiation process was not easy, but the parties managed to reach an agreement under tough circumstances, which included the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you to all of us.”

Timothy Izaks, NBL Human Capital Manager, thanked all parties for seeing the agreement through to completion. “Not only have we finalised the agreement, but we have taken our relationship and ways of working to a whole new level. Furthermore, the parties have agreed that employee well-being and business sustainability will remain our top priorities, thereby securing jobs. This dedication to the futures of our employees and operations is in line with the O&L Purpose of ‘Creating a Future, Enhancing Life’.”

Asalia Mushinga, NBL shop steward, also acknowledged the favourable outcome and noted “It was a win-win deal for both parties. Looking at the current situation in the country, for us as employees and representatives of NBL, job security remains the number one priority on our list.”
