Ndafoluma eyes WBO world title

After successfully defending his title over the weekend in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa middleweight champion, Lukas “The Demolisher” Ndafoluma, says he is now focussing on the world title.

On Sunday, Ndafoluma took on Angolan boxer Cristiano Ndombassy in a title defence, which saw the 35-year-old veteran boxer retaining his belt on points.

In an interview yesterday at the MTC headquarters in Olympia, where the sponsor welcomed the boxers back, Ndafoluma reflected on the fight, saying it was a tough test.

“Fortunate enough, we managed to get what was on the table. The match was tough, my opponent proved to be a warrior. I did not have it easy, but luckily, I managed to pull through the pain and retain my title,” he said.

The soft-spoken boxer said heading forward, his next move is to challenge for the highly sought-after world title. Although it could take time to get his shot to challenge for the title, he is optimistic that he is drawing closer to reaching his dream.

“Heading forward is just to keep on training and continue improving as a boxer, and continue with my quest to challenge and fight for the world title which has been my dream as a boxer. I don’t know when that will happen but I know it will happen very soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, his compatriot, Immanuel Josef who fought on the same night at the same venue grabbed the vacant WBO Africa flyweight title.

He said his fight was not a walk in the park either, adding that due to self-trust and belief, he managed to snatch the title.

“It was not an easy match; I had the most talkative opponent but I did not mind him. I had to rely on my instincts to ensure I manage to come out as the winner. What’s next for me is to go back to the gym and continue with my preparations and stay ready,” said Josef.
