Nestor Tobias-inspired promoter in dire need of assistance
Ongwediva Risto Ashikoto, the founder and boxing promoter of Power-Power Development Promotion Academy, is calling on entrepreneurs and all good Samaritans in the northern regions of the country to financially assist the academy. Ashikoto, who says he is highly inspired by Namibia’s internationally-acclaimed boxing promoter, Nestor Tobias, has ambitions of seeing one of the boxers from his academy bring an African title to Namibia in the near future. According to Ashikoto, one of the academy’s top rising stars is Nathanel Kamati, who has fought 11 fights and lost only one so far. He noted that the other five boxers are beginners but boast a promising future. “We need financial assistance to have at least five boxing tournaments this year to help develop the upcoming boxers. This academy is ready to make the North a place of champions, but I believe that can only be achieved if we work together as one. “We will host a fundraising gala dinner in June. We plan to have our first fight on July 2 at the Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo Mall in Ondangwa.” He explained the challenges of not being recognised by people in the area, saying this lack of visibility restricts the academy’s potential and growth in the community.
