New Chief for Meatco
By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK Meatco, Namibia's leading beef exporting company has a new Chief Executive Officer. Kobus du Plessis has been appointed in the place of Phillip Stoffberg who left the company at the end of April. Meatco announced this week that du Plessis came out at the top after an extensive and rigorous recruitment process that sought to select a new CEO for the company. His five-year term started yesterday, May 1, 2006. Meatco's Manager: Corporate Communications, Uschi Ramakutla said in a statement that Du Plessis, currently residing in Walvis Bay, has extensive experience in value added food processing and of the international food industry. He has also been involved in and has led numerous change and turnaround processes for different organisations during his career. He also served as the Managing Director at Hangana Seafood in 2003 and 2004, and as project manager and consultant at another Namibian fishing company in the course of 2005. Other previous positions held by the company's new CEO include various directorships as well as providing project management and change management services from 1997 to 2002 to various businesses. He also held the position of Group Operations Director at Rainbow Farms Ltd and was the Managing Director of the Oceana Group Southern and Central Region companies as well as the Fishing Division Operations Director at the Oceana Fishing Group Ltd. Du Plessis replaces Stoffberg, who led Meatco during the last 11 years as Managing Director and CEO. Meatco said that Stoffberg, whose contract expired at the end of April, did not apply for the position. During the last financial year, 2005/6, Meatco reported a turnover of close to N$1 billion, Ramakutla said.
